Many museums around the world have embraced virtual tours to reach online viewers. In compiling this list we looked through many museum virtual tours to bring you the best five tours from around the world. If you know of any other museum virtual tours which you think should be on the top five list, please reach out to us. Or if you know of a museum which should have a 3D virtual tour created, let us know.
ONE: The National Gallery
A classic art museum / gallery. Turned into a really clean Matterport 3D virtual tour with lots of information points where you can read about all the specific art pieces. You could spend hours exploring this virtual tour.
TWO: The Diefenbunker
As part of military history, this 3D virtual tour along with the various information points is fascinating to explore. What the virtual tour doesn’t show is how far underground this bunker actually is.
THREE: Barnegat Lighthouse
Calling this 3D tour a museum tour is borderline, but this interior 3D model of a lighthouse is too cool to pass up featuring. The interior navigation isn’t as interesting and spinning around the 3D model itself, so make sure you explore the ‘dollhouse’ view.
FOUR: The National Museum of Computing
When you consider our other 3D virtual tour post on Ancient Egypt, around 5,000 years ago, it’s incredible to think how far technology has developed in a very short time span. Explore this museum on computers and technology, the degree in which computer processing power and increased and the reduction in size in computer components is staggering.
FIVE: Ford Piquette Avenue Plant
This two level 3D virtual tour is fascinating, certainly a classic car lovers dream. There are so many classic vehicles which appear in immaculate condition and housed in a rustic warehouse setting. A really well done and intersting virtual tour to explore.
SIX: Churchill War Rooms
Another historic military museum. Again this 3D tour is done well and allows you to explore this historic military bunker style site.
SEVEN: European Museum of Modern Art
If you are into art and particularly sculpture, this interactive 3D tour will be for you. Many sculptures to explore with informative information points so. you can learn more about the pieces.
EIGHT: The Mark Twain House
This three grand level historic home of Mark Twain, the famous American author known for The Adventures of Tom Sawyer and The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn. Take your time to explore, this both shows an incredible historic home, and one that housed one of the world’s most famous writers.
NINE: President John F. Kennedy Atomic Bomb Shelter
A real simple and quick to explore 3D virtual tour of President Kennedy’s bomb shelter.
TEN: Diocesan Museum Tiepolo Fresco Galleries
For the Renaissance art lovers, this virtual tour allows you to explore part of this incredible palace with its incredible painted walls and ceilings.
The “Diocesan Museum and Galleries of Tiepolo” is a place of extraordinary beauty with a striking backdrop architecture and painting, housed in the famous Patriarchal Palace of Udine, once residence of he Patriarch of Aquileia and of the Archbishop today.
The precious halls and art collections of the Museum amaze visitors, enchanted by the eighteenth century frescoes by Giambattista Tiepolo: the decorations from the ceiling of the Grand staircase, the Guests’ gallery and the Red room.
You can also visit the beautiful rooms on the main floor, with the excellence of the exceptional “grotesques” by Giovanni da Udine in the Blue Room, the stucco of the yellow room and the Patriarchal Library, with its rich collection of books.
BONUS: WWII Glider & Military Museum
This glider and military museum probably would have been more interesting with more information points to learn more about the displays. We decided to include it from a technical 3D perspective as the 3D models of the planes hanging from the ceiling are interesting to view in the 3D dollhouse view.
